Pupils joining us
We encourage all families to visit our school before deciding if they would like a place.
After your have visited if you want a place for your child applications go via Leicestershire Special Needs and Assessment team (SENA). Once your child has a place at Dorothy Goodman School you should receive a letter from SENA. Once we have received our copy we will be in touch with you and will share all the information your child needs to start school successfully.
We hold ‘new starter’ day events as well as individual transition visits. We will work with you to develop a plan to ensure your child’s start at school is as successful as possible. We provide social stories and visuals all about starting school for these children and young people who need these.
We use Arbor App as a means of communication between home and school and will ask you to sign up to this so that you can access all the necessary forms before your child starts.
Joining us as a member of staff
We need people who are committed to helping all our young people who have their unique strengths and areas of difficulty within a range of learning difficulties to achieve positive outcomes. We need people who can support pupils to achieve academic success, develop life skills and increase independence.
At our school, individual differences are recognised and respected but are never seen as a barrier to achievement. By adapting the curriculum and teaching methods we ensure that our pupils have every opportunity to succeed both academically and socially. We also work with young people who have significant challenging behaviour and with those who have severe medical needs, and so candidates need to be prepared to adopt a problem-solving approach to the challenges that those young people may bring. Specialist training is provided for staff within all our roles.
